Reiki works on multiple levels- spiritual, mental, emotional and physical. It is a healing system that attunes the body’s energy to provide healing and restore vitality.
In a Reiki treatment, energy in the body is directed to the level where the problem exists in the patient. During a Reiki treatment, many people experience a feeling similar to that felt during meditation. The body is in a relaxed, yet responsive state. The effect on our mind is that we are able to enter a higher state of cognition and our brain is triggered to produce feel-good hormones. In this way, Reiki has a positive and healing effect on the mind and body.
Reiki is a complementary therapy. When used in conjunction with other therapies, it can enhance their benefit and provide further relief and benefits. For example, if you are seeing a Physiotherapist to address an ongoing injury, Reiki can assist in providing relief from inflammation, joint stiffness and bruising. This holistic approach to healing means that a person is able to make a more complete recovery.
Reiki is a gentle therapy; it is suitable for all ages and can treat many ailments both physical and emotional.
Reiki for Emotional Conditions— Reiki can be used alongside other Therapies such as Counseling and Psychological work to facilitate healing and relief from emotional trauma and long standing emotional conditions. Reiki is effective in assisting individuals who are receiving treatment for: Grief; Trauma; Post Traumatic Stress; Relationship Management; Anxiety; Self-Esteem, Self-Worth, Self-Knowing; Stress Management; Depression; Emotional Balance and Addictive Behaviours.
Reiki for Chronic and Acute Physical Conditions— Chronic conditions or ongoing conditions, will usually require consecutive treatments to treat, as they have manifested in the body over time. Acute conditions usually require one or two sessions to gain an outcome, as these are recent manifestations in the body. Each individual will vary as to the intensity and treatment requirements, as well as the results and reactions to treatment. Reiki is effective in assisting individuals who are receiving treatment for: Auto immune disease; Insomnia; Heart Disease; Cancer; Asthma; Diabetes; Irritable Bowel Syndrome; Joint & Muscle Pain; Fibromyalgia; Inflammation and others.
Reiki for Conception, Pregnancy and Post-natal care— Reiki is often used by couples who are hoping to start a family. Reiki treatments are beneficial throughout this process, from pre-conception, to conception, throughout the pregnancy and birthing process, as well as postpartum. Reiki assists with the physical changes to the Mother’s body as well as providing support for the emotional experiences of both parents. A Reiki treatment room is a relaxing space. It is a sanctuary in which you can experience serenity from the world outside and allow yourself to focus on your health and wellbeing. Music may play softly in the background, lights may be dimmed and candles or aromatherapy oils may be used.
Please let your practitioner know if you wish for any of these to be omitted. Remember this is your time for healing, your experience and comfort is important.
A Reiki treatment begins with a consultation, a short questionnaire is completed by the practitioner, which will ask for your contact details, a concise account of your medical history and the treatment that you are currently undertaking; any allergies or medications you are taking; your expectations from your Reiki session and any specific areas of concern that you would like to address.
As Reiki is a complementary therapy, it works in conjunction with the other therapies that you are using to treat your areas of concern. Reiki both enhances and provides further benefit to existing treatments.
You will then begin your Reiki session, either seated in a comfortable chair or lying under a blanket on a massage table (you will remain completely clothed).
A series of hand positions are then conducted by the Practitioner either just above the body, on the body or a combination of these (you may nominate your preference). This will restore and balance the body's energy system.
Following this foundation treatment, specific areas of focus will be addressed. These will be based on your areas of need.
Reiki may be experienced as a warmth, cold or tingling sensation. Different parts of the body will experience different sensations depending on the specific requirements of the individual.
The immediate benefits that you will experience during your treatment are relaxation, de-stressing and pain alleviation. The body’s energy will return to and maintain a balanced flow of its life force energy.
At the end of the Reiki session, the practitioner will let you know that your treatment is complete and that you may take a few moments before standing up. There is no need to rush and taking a moment to enjoy the pleasant effects of Reiki energy before rising is encouraged.
You will be offered water at the end of your session, once you've regained an upright position. Drinking water assists the body in flushing the toxins that have been broken down for release. It is recommended that you drink fluids (water / herbal tea) after receiving Reiki to assist the body in flushing. It is common to experience some minor sensations similar to detoxification in the days following your treatment. Full support is offered, should you require.
